Australian Staples

Why oh why did we not discover this tasty treat in the United States? Pure oversight, never again to be repeated. It is pure deliciousness.

Our first trip to the grocery store was not complete until we bought Vegemite. Same color as the Nutella, but the similarities end there. Could you seriously eat something that says "Concentrated Yeast Extract" on the label? Not to worry, we will have plenty to share when you come and visit, or it might even be around when we come home to Texas.

There is always a jar of Nutella in my cupboard - Frequently spread on waffles or chocolate chip cookies. Heaven. A friend from Australia once offered me Vegemite - I couldn't try it.

LOVE nutella...been eating it since Germany as a kid. The Vegemite stuff reminds me of something Cesar told me. When on his mission some companion got hooked on the stuff and shipped several jars home. When they arrived at his parent's place, his mom opened one and when she smelled it, tossed all the jars. Poor missionary :-) You didn't mention if you actually TASTED any of it...

We had to come to Ireland to discover it and wondered the same thing.... The only problem is that the kids take chocolate snadwiches with them to school which is frowned upon by the teachers as it's not very healthy!!

So what is concentrated yeast extract? What do you use it for?

Nutella I don't dare bring home because it will end any kind of good nutrition that happens to be left at this house.
